About Sunset Rotary Club

Rotary clubs are dedicated to putting service above self.  With around 40 members, Hilton Head Sunset Rotary is ideally structured to provide opportunities for service to the Hilton Head and surrounding communities. Our members are a group of accomplished, goal-oriented individuals that have a strong sense of service to others and like to get things DONE. We are the right size for our members to be active in team projects working with other members for the good of the community. Member volunteers have active, important roles in projects involving club, international, vocational, and youth services.

We are a generous group providing financial support to local charities and the Rotary Foundation.  But our best contributions and greatest enjoyment come from utilizing our members’ time and talent to support charitable projects in the community.

Some of the projects Sunset Rotary participates in are:

Sunset Rotary also organizes local fund raiser events such as the “19th Hole Concession” at the RBC Heritage, and the Mini Golf Tournament at Pirates Island on Hilton Head. These events allow us to raise funds for local charities and interact with locals and visitors who patronize these events.

We meet weekly and every other meeting is a dinner meeting. Each meeting features a speaker and topics have included local politics, golf, charities, the environment and more.  Our comfortable relaxed meetings make us a popular choice of visiting Rotarians who make us their home away from home. We are known as “The Fun Club” and we hope you will join us in service to the community.
Hilton Head Island Sunset Rotary Club’s COVID-19 Action

Hilton Head Island Sunset Rotary Club took advantage of the District 7770 offer of early District Grant money to be applied to a project related to addressing the impacts of the Corona virus pandemic. The club had a long relationship with the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry (SCFP) and the Founder and Director, Rev. Dr. Nannette Pierson.

Several members were aware of the impact the pandemic was having on the mission of the charitable organization to alleviate hunger while nourishing not only the body, but also the mind and spirit of those who hunger. The client load was up, children were at home instead of in school, many clients depended on hospitality industry jobs that were shut down, and SCFP operating hours had to be reduced. A grant would help SCFP afford supplies needed to serve clients outdoors while masked, gloved, and practicing safe distancing.

The grant would help purchase additional grocery items each week for the added client load. The grant would go to helping the working poor and bring hope to client families when hope becomes forlorn. Sandalwood Community Food Pantry continues serving the hungry on Hilton Head Island. [pictured above] Club President Toney Mathews visited the operation first hand to receive thanks from Rev. Dr. Nannette Pierson on June 30th as she and her volunteers went about their weekly food distribution activities. They serve over 850 families throughout the year.
